Archived News: Out of the ashes of the old; Fullmono 2.0...

25/07/2004

With the new site comes a new outlook, a new philosophy and a new lineup.

It's been a longtime coming, but I think we're finally there. After a protracted period of serious wound-licking, we're finally back in the studio.

First, a little about what happened to Fullmono 1.0. It started off in late 2001, with a couple of random half decent breaks tracks I had done that were lying around gathering dust. A friend of mine put me in touch with an MC, who had rapped over a bootleg copy of a track I was working on a few years ago, which he sent to me as a demo. He contribuited some lyrics to these breaks experemints that I had produced, and it just all clicked. We had suddenly created a sound.

For some reason, even though we had a established a fairly developed sound, I felt we were missing something. I brought in a singer and a guitarist, both from the supposedly prestigeous BIMM. From this point on, it started to go wrong...

To cut a long story short, after 18 months of disagreements, frustration, depression and good ol' fashioned hair-pulling, I called it a day. We weren't working as a team. Band members weren't showing up for sessions. I was fighting personalities on all sides. It was a violent, slow motion trainwreck in high-definition widescreen. My original vision was being diluted by negative influences, my enthusiasm eroding away. It was clearly over a long time before I realised.

Traumatised by the whole episode, it's actually been nine months scince I last stepped back into the studio without forcing myself. I was so deeply affected by this, which was to be my last ditch attempt at "making a go of it", there were I times when I thought that my days as a musician and writer were over. Not any more.

Me and Kobby have discussed the whole episode, and have decided to ressurect Fullmono, with our original vision and lineup at the core; Deep electronic funk. Full on breaks. Future-thinking rhymes. They are all still there waiting to be tapped. If we feel like collaborating with others, then we'll do it, but for now it's all about the breaks.

When will we have something out? well, we haven't set a timetable - we're taking baby steps back, and when we finally produce something we like enough, we'll release it. For now, I'm just enjoying making the music.
